STEPS Head Start & Childcare
STEPS Head Start & Childcare's purpose is to provide high quality, developmentally appropriate learning environments, foster exploration, and encourage play. Through our holistic 2Gen approach to services, STEPS strives to strengthen the skills of all participants and prepare children and families to be school ready. All programs are state licensed through the Virginia Department of Education, utilize a research based curriculum, participate in Virginia Quality Birth to Five (VQB5) initiatives, and provide inclusive services for children with disabilities.

Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded program designed to promote the healthy development of infants, toddlers, and pregnant women from eligible families.
STEPS serves children age birth to three and pregnant women. Our comprehensive services include early learning and development, with a focus on social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth. This is a 10 month program.

Head Start (HS) is a federally funded program that provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and family support services to eligible children and families. STEPS primary goal is to prepare children and families for school, both academically and socially through supporting they families overall well-being,
Head Start serves children age 3 to 5 and has a strong focus on parents being partners in their child's learning and development. This is a 10 month program.

Virginia's Mixed Delivery Program (MD) is a publicly funded, offers full-day, year-round early care and education services for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers age birth to 5.
STEPS participates in the Mixed Delivery Program with a limited number of slots in our Prince Edward County locations. Participants must meet eligibility requirements and a co-payment is required. Families must be working to be eligible for MD,

Childcare is offered in our Prince Edward County locations to families who are approved for subsidy through the Department of Social Services, or for those who choose to pay out of pocket.
STEPS offers the same comprehensive services to all children and families regardless of funding source. To apply for childcare subsidy you must complete an application with the Commonwealth of Virginia https://commonhelp.virginia.gov/
