COVERAGE AREA: Counties of Amelia, Buckingham, Cumberland, Lunenburg, Nottoway and Prince Edward
PURPOSE: To assist citizens who fall within certain parameters with their utility expenses.
SELECTION CRITERIA: Individuals are required to be over the age of 60 or have a Disconnection Notice from their power company.
FUNDING PERIOD: In the heating season, Energy Share will fund up to $600.00 towards a household’s heating expenses. This can be assisting with an electric bill or payment for oil, propane or wood. Citizens over the age of 60 can qualify for assistance twice in a season but cannot exceed the $600.00 maximum.
In the cooling season, Energy Share will fund up to $300.00 of a household’s cooling source. Citizens over the age of 60 can qualify for assistance twice in a season but cannot exceed the $300.00 maximum. Due to limited funds, STEPS reserve the right to deny pledges to any citizen/household found to be ineligible for services or for providing fraudulent information.

The first contact should be made by telephone to complete the initial screening to determine eligibility. A pledge cannot be made before the individual’s Intake Appointment with the Energy Share Case Manager. Pledge documentation is processed online authorizing payments to power companies, oil/propane or wood vendors. Funding is made available through Dominion Energy and distributed by United Way in Richmond and Petersburg.
